Inner City Youth Golf Program

PGA of Manitoba Inner City Youth Golf Program
The PGA of Manitoba has begun an initiative to bring the game of golf to a group of children whom may not otherwise have access. This year, the PGA of Manitoba has selected Elmwood High School as the first recipients of the program.
This year’s participants receive;
- Equipment
- Clothing
- Green fees for the 2011 season
- Golf instruction
Given access and the necessary equipment, the PGA of Manitoba believes these youth can become core golfers and through the game, have a positive impact in their lives.
This brand new program has begun with a group of four participants, two boys and two girls, all 14 years old. Ryan Del Bigio, Assistant Professional at Rossmere, is the Head Instructor for the program and will mentor the children in the game for this season. Ryan is working with all aspects of the program including:
- Instruction – both group and private.
- Spending time playing and mentoring the group.
- Following up with the host facility and ensuring that the relationship is working.
- Documenting progress of the group and reporting back to the committee.
- Following up with the group and the school staff to understand the successes of the program.
- Making necessary adjustments and improvements for the following season.
Nike and Titleist Golf have generously donated the equipment and clothing necessary for the Program. As well, Rossmere Golf & Country Club has donated memberships for the 2011 season and is our host site for the program.
Long Term Goal of the Inner City Youth Golf Program :
To create an ongoing relationship between the PGA of Manitoba and Winnipeg youth. We hope that through its success, we can grow this program, introducing many children to the great game of golf and most importantly, have a positive impact in their lives.
