Congratulations to all the nominees and winners  of the 2022 PGA Awards!

 

PGA of Canada - Manitoba Zone Apprentice of the Year

As an Apprentice Nominee – you must demonstrate outstanding qualities of leadership and be well-regarded as a role model to your peers. This recipient does just that. Well-respected by the members at the club and staff this recipient has many new accomplishments this past year. A leadership role and working in the Junior Camps, Juniors Clinics and lessons, he gets out to play at the PGA of Manitoba tournaments as much as his schedule allows. Leading by example, always keeping up a positive outlook and attitude and willing to step in and help whenever and wherever necessary at the club are only some of the positive attributes of our award recipient.

PGA of Canada - Manitoba Zone Class A Member of the Year

As a Class A Members of the Year Nominee – you must possess outstanding qualities of leadership and customer service. You are well regarded as a role model to other PGA of Canada Class “A” Professionals in Manitoba. This recipient worked in numerous positions at the club this year with ongoing changes. Managing and leading a staff of 26, external tournaments, junior, private and group lessons, and coaching/ mentoring many juniors and amateurs to name some of the things that keep him busy. Coming up with fun video tutorials for staff is one of his specialties!

PGA of Canada - Manitoba Zone Retailer of the Year

A Nominee for the Retailer of the year must demonstrate skills in planning and promotion of sales by presenting products to their market on a timely basis, and through the use of specialized merchandising techniques that include display and advertising. Overseeing management and sales, developing and executing a successful sales plan for the season, keeping the shop fresh by rotating merchandise frequently, bringing in new lines and re-inventing the shop often is what makes this shop successful. With over $816,000 in gross sales in 2022, they have projected to continue to increase sales once again in 2023.

This year’s Merchandiser of the Year is Craig Strand, St. Charles Country Club. Congratulations Craig!

 

PGA of Canada - Manitoba Zone Junior Leader of the Year Award.

PGA of Manitoba Junior Leader of the Year Recipient must be greatly involved the promotion and development of junior golf at the club level and within the community. This PGA professional must be a leader in junior golf and reflects the ideals of those who work with juniors. As the Junior Girls Development Provincial Coach, she works with 14 girls across Manitoba to help them excel in the game of golf on a provincial and national level. Highly involved in the junior program and junior camps at the club, she piloted a project 3 years ago that is extremely successful and growing, encouraging girls aged 5-14 to get into the game. Positive and patient, this recipient is a role model for all junior players from the age of three and up!

This year’s Recipient for 2022 PGA of Manitoba Junior Leader of the Year – congratulations to Bri-ann Tokariwski.

 

PGA of Canada –Manitoba Zone Coach of the Year

The Coach of the Year recipient must be recognized as an outstanding coach among the ranks of the Manitoba Zone membership and Initiate and/or implement unusual, innovative and/or special coaching programs. Understanding multiple coaching technologies, continually investing in personal growth in workshops and clinics and learning from top coaches, he is always working to improve upon his skills. Certified in many swing courses and Golf Psychology Coaching, this recipient is both the Bison Golf Coach and the Golf Manitoba Junior Boys Development Coach. Working with golfers of all levels at his club, developing various programs for juniors and ladies, he keeps himself extremely busy.

This year’s Coach of the Year recipient is Derrik Goodwin

 

PGA of Canada – Manitoba Zone Teacher of the Year

The Teacher of the Year Awards is designed to recognize an outstanding teacher of golf among the PGA of Manitoba Professionals. This award is based on a professional’s overall performance in teaching and special teaching programs initiated and implemented. This year’s recipient has attended multiple coaching workshops, both as an attendee and a presenter. Teaching camps and classes at many facilities to every level of golfer, this recipient is continuously called on both at a grass roots and national level for advice on how to improve golfing clinics. Running Mini U summer camps and full instruction for the first time this past season with Special Olympics athletes, this recipient also develops clinics and programs that continuously evolve and all levels of golfers are able to enjoy. His personal mission is to teach those who will get out to play golf for a lifetime with friends and family.

The 2022 recipient of the PGA of Manitoba Teacher of the Year is:  Glen Sirkis.

 

PGA of Manitoba Club Executive Professional of the Year

The PGA of Canada I Manitoba Zone Executive Professional of the Year Award recognize the Executive Professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA of Canada professional. Including: outstanding qualities of leadership & management, maintaining a substantial record of service to the Association and the game of golf and is well-regarded as a role model to other PGA of Canada Executive Professionals. This year’s recipient has overseen many projects over the years at his club, including $ 8M in capital improvements in the past 12 years and a $1M clubhouse renovation as project manager. Responsible for developing a successful 10-year business plan with new vision and mission statements, having a sold-out membership with a waiting list for the past 5 seasons and is actively involved in all aspects of the club, this recipient leads by example and has created a positive, caring culture. He works on, and continuously encourages his staff to also go above and beyond expectations.

This year’s recipient of the Manitoba Zone Executive of the Year Award is Cory Johnson.

 

PGA of Canada - Manitoba Zone Club Professional of the Year

The PGA of Manitoba Golf Professional of the year recognizes a club professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA of Canada - Manitoba professional Zone. This award – and this year’s recipient - embraces a wide range of services executed by the club professional, and he continues to have a passion for the game and for constant improvement. This year’s recipient is dedicated to the Manitoba Zone and his golf club. Covering all facets of golf operations at the club, he oversees a team of professionals in lesson program, events, clinics, member events and all aspects of communications. Creating a consistent team with very little turnover, mentoring and managing younger staff, and working with the team to create a positive experience for members is extremely important.

The 2022 PGA of Manitoba Golf Professional of the Year is Matt Lorenz.

 

PGA of Manitoba Zone Club Distinguished Service Award.

This year marks the third year of the PGA Manitoba Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to a PGA of Manitoba Zone Professional who displays leadership and humanitarian qualities. This includes integrity, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of golf. It recognizes their contribution not only to the to the PGA of Manitoba Zone, but to Golf in Canada and their Contribution to Golf in their local community. It is the PGA of Manitoba Zone’s most prestigious honour.
