Devon Schade Takes Top Spot at Spring Classic
The 2026 Player of the Year Series got off to an exciting start at Carman Golf & Curling Club, where Devon Schade of Larters at St. Andrews Golf & C.C. captured the championship with an impressive round of 68 (-3). Schade successfully defended his title in this event after having won the tournament when it was hosted at Pine Ridge Golf Club in 2025. The victory gives him early control of the Player of the Year points race.
A competitive field kept the pressure on throughout the day, with Derrik Goodwin (Glendale Country Club) and Ben Dalke (Niakwa Country Club) finishing tied for second at 69 (-2). Four players shared fourth place at even-par 71, including Austin Dobrescu (EVO Golf), Ryan McMillan (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club), host professional Dean North (Carman Golf & Curling Club), and Jason Ludke (Pine Ridge Golf & Country Club).
The event marked the opening stop of the four-event Player of the Year Series, which will continue throughout the 2026 season. The series is made possible thanks to the generous support of Gerry Hodson who stepped forward with a significant sponsorship commitment. His support plays a vital role in enhancing competitive opportunities for players and in helping members thrive both on and off the course.
The organizing committee extends its sincere appreciation to Carman Golf & Curling Club for hosting an outstanding championship and to Dean North and his team for their leadership and hospitality in delivering a first-class event.
With a strong start in the books, anticipation is already building for the next stop on the 2026 Player of the Year Series, coming up at the Winkler Centennial Golf Course on Monday, June 29.
