2025 PGA Seniors’ Champion of Canada presented by GOLFTEC: Gordon Burns
The saying goes that golf is a game for a lifetime.
For four days in Bromont, Que., some of the most accomplished PGA of Canada Professionals in the country will prove exactly why.
The 85th PGA Seniors' Championship of Canada presented by GOLFTEC takes place June 16-19 at Parcours du Vieux Village, welcoming a field of competitors whose résumés include national championships, provincial titles, and decades of experience competing at the highest levels of professional golf.
The championship returns to a familiar venue, one that has already produced memorable moments in recent PGA of Canada history.
Located in the picturesque town of Bromont, Club de Golf Vieux Village has hosted this championship twice in recent years, with Dennis Hendershott capturing the title in 2021 and Alan McLean earning the victory in 2024.
This year, another chapter will be added to that history.
The PGA Seniors' Championship of Canada has long served as a celebration of excellence within the Association. While experience is undoubtedly an advantage, the championship routinely reminds competitors that scoring never gets easier. The margins are slim, and every shot matters.
Attention to Detail presented by Golf Away Tours:
Experience Matters
Few events on the national championship schedule can match the collective experience assembled at the PGA Seniors' Championship.
The field features professionals who have spent decades teaching, coaching, managing facilities, growing the game, and competing in championships across Canada and beyond.
With a blend of former champions, perennial contenders and first-time participants, experience will be one of the defining storylines throughout the week.
The field consists of players 50 years of age or older, while the Super Senior category, which features 14 players, are 60 years of age or older.
A Familiar Test
Parcours du Vieux Village is no stranger to worthy champions.
The Bromont venue hosted the championship in both 2021 and 2024. In 2021, Dennis Hendershott fired 71-69-64, making birdie on each of his final four holes during the final round to win by one stroke over Danny King.
Hendershott’s mark of 12-under was bested in 2024 by Alan McLean, who lapped the field with rounds of 67-60-65 (-24) to win by five strokes over David Morland.
McLean made two eagles during his bogey-free second round where he found himself 11-under par for the day standing on the 13th tee. McLean was unable to make birdie on 13-17 and narrowly missed an eagle putt on 18 for what would have been the first 59 in PGA of Canada National Championship history.
The next day, though, he would make an albatross on the fifth hole on the way to winning the championship.
The Defending Champion
Every championship begins with one question: can the defending champion do it again?
Gord Burns enters the week as the reigning PGA Seniors' Champion of Canada and will undoubtedly attract attention when play begins Wednesday morning, especially after also winning the PGA Head Teaching Professional Championship last December in Mexico.
With three PGA national titles now on his résumé, Burns understands the challenge ahead and the level of golf required to successfully defend a championship.
Season’s Second Birdie Juice Birdie Race
Marcus Khaw was pouring in birdies at Bayview Golf & Country Club on his way to the inaugural Birdie Juice Birdie Race crown at the PGA Assistants’ Championship presented by Callaway Golf, but something tells us there are plenty more where that came from in Bromont.
Whoever makes the most birdies this week will take home a $250 cash prize thanks to our friends at Birdie Juice.
