Keating Claims Hodson Financial Senior Championship

It was a storybook senior debut for Walter Keating of Whitewater Golf Club (Thunder Bay), who went wire-to-wire to capture the Hodson Financial Senior Championship at Larters at St. Andrews.

Keating, who turned 50 just last week, followed up his opening-round 69 with a closing 68 to finish at three-under par 137 for the championship and claim the $1,500 winner’s cheque.

Finishing in a tie for second place at six-over par 146 were two-time past champion Dean North of Carman Golf & Curling Club and Steve Wood of St. Boniface Golf Club, each earning $875. Three players shared fourth position at eight-over par 148: host club’s Geoff KehlerRob Damsgaard of The Players Course, and Ryan Sommerfeld of Shinebox Lifestyle Brands. Each player earned $550 for their efforts.  The total purse for the event was $7500 and was fully funded by our title sponsor.

The PGA of Manitoba extends its deepest gratitude to Gerry Hodson and Hodson Financial, whose generosity and commitment make this championship possible. Gerry’s support of our zone is unmatched, and his dedication extends well beyond this event, as seen through his creation of initiatives such as Birdies Battling Bacteria and countless other avenues of support that strengthen our membership and competitive opportunities.

We also thank the membership and staff at Larters at St. Andrews for hosting this year’s championship. The course was in tremendous condition, and the service across all departments was exceptional. Special recognition goes to General Manager & Director of Golf Geoff Kehler, Head Professional Devon Schade, Assistant Professional Trent Robertson, Life Professional Peter Ewert, Superintendent Tim Larter and the entire grounds team, Food & Beverage Manager Bri Garcea, and Executive Chef Thomas Parry for their outstanding efforts in ensuring a successful event.
