Keating Leads After Round One of Hodson Financial Senior Championship

St. Andrews, MB – A newly minted senior has wasted no time making his mark at the Hodson Financial Senior Championship. Walt Keating, who celebrated his 50th birthday just this past Friday, opened his debut in the championship with an impressive 1-under par 69 at Larters at St. Andrews to take the round one lead.

Keating (Whitewater Golf Club) holds a three-shot advantage over Larters’ own Geoff Kehler, who carded a steady 72 (+2). Sitting one back of Kehler at +3 is Ryan Sommerfeld of Shinebox Lifestyle Brands, while a trio of contenders are lurking at +4: two-time defending champion Dean North (Carman Golf & Curling Club), Dave Lavallee (Bel Acres Country Club), and Steve Wood (St. Boniface Golf Club).

Defending champion Glen Mills (Assiniboine Golf Club), who claimed the 2024 title, sits in a tie for seventh alongside Rob Damsgaard (The Players Course), both posting rounds of 76 (+6).

With a tightly packed leaderboard and championship experience close behind, tomorrow’s final round promises plenty of excitement as Keating looks to hold off a strong field of veterans chasing the trophy.  The field will tee off tomorrow morning in an 11:00 am modified shotgun start.
